LMIA guides for job seekers

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document an employer gets from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to show it needs a foreign worker for a specific job. The employer applies and pays the fee — a worker cannot apply for an LMIA, and employers are not allowed to recover the LMIA fee from workers.

These guides explain the process, current processing times, low- vs high-wage streams, LMIA-exempt work permits, how to search for LMIA-flagged jobs, and the red flags of LMIA scams.
