    The format you'll actually face

Most Canadian interviews are: a 30-min recruiter screen, a 45–60 min hiring-manager interview (often behavioural), and a 60-min panel or technical round. Government and large enterprises add a structured competency interview.

    Tell me about yourself

3-part answer: Where I am nowWhat I've doneWhy this role. Keep it under 90 seconds. End by tying yourself directly to the posting. Related: how to answer "tell me about yourself" with three full sample answers.

    Why this company

Skip the praise. Name something specific — a recent product launch, a value, a market they're entering — and tie it to your skills. "I want a company that values X" lands flat unless you can prove they value X.

    Behavioural questions (STAR)

STAR = Situation, Task, Action, Result. Common prompts:

    • "Tell me about a time you handled a difficult stakeholder."
    • "Tell me about a project that didn't go to plan."
    • "Tell me about a time you led without authority."

Prepare 5–6 stories that can flex across these prompts. Always end with a measurable result.

    Situational questions

    • "How would you prioritize three urgent tasks with one afternoon?"
    • "A teammate misses a deadline that affects you. What do you do?"

Talk through your reasoning. Interviewers care more about how you think than the "right" answer.

    Questions you should ask

    • "What does success in the first 90 days look like?"
    • "How is feedback given on this team?"
    • "What's the hardest part of this role?"

Walk in tailored: tailor your resume, then a tailored cover letter.
