The Harvard resume template — adapted for Canada.

The Harvard OCS format is one of the best-known single-column, quantified resume templates. Here's how to adapt it for Canadian conventions: no photo, NOC 2021, Canadian English.

    The short answer

The Harvard Office of Career Services template has spread across the internet because it works: single column, tight header, quantified bullets, chronological experience. It's what most senior US recruiters recognise as a professional resume.

It's US-oriented in a few small ways — US spelling, no NOC references, GPA-heavy education section. Adapting it for Canada is quick, and Jobeefy's free builder gets you the same structure with the Canadian tweaks baked in.

Jobeefy is not affiliated with Harvard University or the Harvard Office of Career Services. We reference the template as a widely-used standard and adapt its principles for the Canadian market.

Where the Harvard resume template is strong

    • Battle-tested single-column format that parses well in ATSes.
    • Prioritises content over decoration — recruiters see the substance first.
    • Quantified-bullet convention (action + metric + result) is now the global standard.

Where it falls short for Canadian job seekers

US spelling defaults. Small change with an outsized effect: recruiters clock "organize/organise" quickly. Switch to Canadian English.

No NOC 2021. Canadian applications increasingly ask for it — the Harvard template doesn't have a natural home for it. Put it under your job title in parentheses.

Education section over-weighted for mid-career. Fine for students; too much page real estate if you've been out of school 5+ years. Compress.

    4. Run through the ATS checker — should score high given the clean format.
