The short answer
Canva's resume templates are gorgeous. That's exactly why they hurt Canadian applications: two-column grids, sidebars, icons, and text boxes are parsed inconsistently by Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, and Lever. A recruiter sees a stunning PDF; the ATS sees your job title in the wrong field.
Use Canva when a human will see the resume first (in-person career fair, recruiter email attachment). Use Jobeefy when it's going through an online application form — which is nearly every Canadian job posting.
Where Canva is strong
- Best-in-class visual design and template variety.
- Excellent for portfolios, personal brand pages, and printed collateral.
- Free tier includes PDF export.
Where it falls short for Canadian job seekers
Two-column layouts break ATS parsing. The most popular Canva resume templates put contact info in a sidebar. Many ATSes read left-to-right, top-to-bottom, and interleave the columns — so your name ends up beside a skill bullet.
Text-in-image traps. Some templates render section headings as decorative graphics. Parsers skip them entirely, so "Experience" and "Education" disappear.
No NOC 2021 or Canadian-specific guidance. Canva is a global design tool, not a Canadian job-search tool. Read the ATS-friendly Canadian format for what actually parses here.
