    TL;DR
    • TEER replaced the old NOC skill types (0/A/B/C/D) in November 2022 as part of NOC 2021.
    • There are 6 TEER levels: 0 (management) through 5 (short-term training).
    • Express Entry (CEC + FSWP) requires TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 for your primary work experience.
    • In a 5-digit NOC 2021 code, the second digit usually indicates the TEER (with some exceptions).
    • LMIA wage floors change by TEER — recruiters and employers care about this number.

    The 6 TEER levels

    • TEER 0 — Management (e.g. marketing manager, IT project manager).
    • TEER 1 — University degree usually required (e.g. software developer, RN, financial auditor).
    • TEER 2 — College diploma or 2+ year apprenticeship, or supervisory role.
    • TEER 3 — College under 2 years, or 6 months on-the-job (e.g. customer service rep, bookkeeper, cook).
    • TEER 4 — High school + short training (e.g. retail salesperson, food service supervisor).
    • TEER 5 — Short-term work demonstration, no formal training (e.g. warehouse worker, cleaner).

    Why TEER matters for immigration

Under Express Entry, only TEER 0, 1, 2 and 3 occupations count as skilled work experience for CEC and FSWP. TEER 4 and 5 experience does not qualify (though it may support other programs like the Agri-Food Pilot or an LMIA-based work permit). Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) sometimes accept TEER 4 for specific occupations.
