What does TEER stand for?
Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities. It's the system Statistics Canada and ESDC use to categorize jobs in NOC 2021.
Is TEER the same as NOC?
No. NOC is the 5-digit job-classification code. TEER is the second digit of that code (0–5) and tells you the training/experience level required.
Which TEERs are eligible for Express Entry?
TEER 0, 1, 2, and 3 are generally eligible for federal economic immigration programs. Some category-based draws also include selected TEER 4 and 5 occupations. Always confirm the latest IRCC criteria.
When did TEER replace the old skill levels?
November 16, 2022, alongside the rollout of NOC 2021. Postings, IRCC programs, and Job Bank wage data all use TEER now.
Can my TEER change without me changing jobs?
Yes — when ESDC reclassifies an occupation. A handful moved between TEER 2 and TEER 3 in 2022. Re-check your code annually if you're using it for immigration.
