STAR-method sample answer
Question: Tell me about a time you avoided a serious incident.
Situation. Coming through Pincher Creek in winter on a Calgary–Coutts run, road conditions deteriorated to black ice with high crosswind.
Task. Get the trailer to a safe stop without a rollover or jackknife, stay HOS-compliant.
Action. I downshifted early, reduced to 40 km/h, called dispatch to flag the conditions, and pulled into the next certified rest area to wait out the storm.
Result. Zero damage, zero CVSE flag, and the load arrived 6 hours late but intact. Dispatch updated the lane SOP based on my report.
