    STAR-method sample answer

Question: Tell me about a time you de-escalated an upset patient.

Situation. At False Creek a patient arrived 20 minutes late and the GP had moved on to the next slot, triggering a loud complaint at the front desk.

Task. Calm the patient, protect the room, and get them rebooked without disrupting the rest of the schedule.

Action. I moved the conversation into the consult room, listened, apologized for the inconvenience, offered the same-day cancellation slot at 4:10 pm, and texted them a confirmation.

Result. Patient stayed, attended the rebook, sent a thank-you note the next day. The doctor's afternoon ran on time.
