Camp Canada Interview Questions (Summer Camp Counsellor, 2026)

Camp Canada interview questions for summer camp counsellors — motivation, child-safety, homesickness, and STAR-format sample answer.

    What to expect

Camp Canada interviews (and the wider Canadian summer camp hiring circuit — Camp Ouareau, Kandalore, Ontario Camps Association members) focus on motivation, camper safety, homesickness handling, and life away from home for 8–10 weeks. International candidates get extra questions on visa, flights, and cultural adjustment.

    STAR-method sample answer

Question: Tell me about a time you built rapport with a young person who was reluctant to engage.

Situation. Volunteering with a youth club, a 12-year-old refused to join the group games for the first two sessions.

Task. Get them engaged without forcing it, and keep the rest of the group moving.

Action. I gave them a low-pressure job (scorekeeper), sat with them during a break to ask what they liked outside of school, and built the next session's warm-up around their interest (skateboarding).

Result. They ran the warm-up the following week, joined every game after, and their parent emailed the coordinator to say club had become the highlight of their week.

    5. What do you enjoy most about working here?
