Bridging Programs in Canada for Internationally Trained Professionals (2026)
IRCC-funded bridging programs get internationally trained nurses, engineers, teachers, doctors and accountants to Canadian licensure faster. Here's the full 2026 list.
A bridging program is the shortest, cheapest path from a foreign professional credential to a Canadian licence. It combines gap-filling coursework, language upgrading, exam preparation and a Canadian work placement — funded by IRCC and provincial ministries. This is the 2026 catalogue.
What a bridging program actually is
Bridging programs are formal, accredited programs designed to help internationally trained professionals meet Canadian regulatory or workplace requirements. They typically include:
- Gap-filling coursework at a Canadian university or college.
- Occupation-specific language training (OSLT) or profession-specific vocabulary.
- Preparation for Canadian licensing exams.
- A Canadian work placement of 4–24 weeks.
- Career coaching and mentor matching.
Most are jointly funded by IRCC's Settlement Program and the provincial Ministry of Labour or Ministry of Colleges.
