A bridging program is the shortest, cheapest path from a foreign professional credential to a Canadian licence. It combines gap-filling coursework, language upgrading, exam preparation and a Canadian work placement — funded by IRCC and provincial ministries. This is the 2026 catalogue.

What a bridging program actually is

Bridging programs are formal, accredited programs designed to help internationally trained professionals meet Canadian regulatory or workplace requirements. They typically include:

    • Gap-filling coursework at a Canadian university or college.
    • Occupation-specific language training (OSLT) or profession-specific vocabulary.
    • Preparation for Canadian licensing exams.
    • A Canadian work placement of 4–24 weeks.
    • Career coaching and mentor matching.

Most are jointly funded by IRCC's Settlement Program and the provincial Ministry of Labour or Ministry of Colleges.
